This weekend, June 19-20 (Sat-Sun), Adam Lee from San
Francisco will teach a Lindy Hop Workshop.
LOCATION: MIT building 36, room 112. (This is a change from
the previously announced 24-407.)

Classes will be taught in blocks of two classes of an hour
and half each, one being geared to lecture and one to
movement, both for dancing!

Beginning/Intermediate: 11:00am - 2:00pm
*Defining Characteristics of Music - Explore Melody,
Harmony, and Rhythm and how to identify musical styles using
these markers. Also, how to use musical structure to
anticipate changes in the three elements.
*Building Distance - The key to connection through posture
and solid body mechanics.
Intermediate/Advanced: 3:00pm - 6:00pm
*Swing Rhythms - Fundamental and basic rhythmic patterns in
swing music, and what we can do with them.
*Cool Moves - Weight and momentum changing movements.

Open Levels: 3:00pm - 6:00pm
*Roles in Big Band Music - Learn what each section in the
band is doing, and how to respond to them. Listen to the
evolution of the big band sound through time and space from
New Orleans to New York to Kansas City.
*Jazz Improvisation in Lindy Hop - Working with patterns and
repetition in music (riffs) to improve your improv ability.

.....Bio.....
Adam Lee is the founder of Swing Beijing and the Beijing Big
Band, and has been swingin' since he was 7 years old
starting with music (saxophone and clarinet), and picking up
swing dance in 1997. He taught in his home state of
California for 3 years before moving to China. He has taught
in Beijing continuously for 7 years, and conducted workshops
in places such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Moscow,
Ireland, Portugal, Vietnam, Ukraine, London, Brazil,
Argentina, and back again in his home region in the SF Bay
Area. He describes himself as a 'Musician who also can
dance' and thinks of the Lindy Hop as a "natural dance" that
should be done as an extension of natural movement and
musical interpretation. He is currently on a world tour,
heading to places with burgeoning swing scenes and helping
out where he can.
