At 7:30 before the dance, Victoria and Omari will teach an action-packed crash course on swing (East Coast Swing).

At 10 pm, we'll have a costume contest with prizes of chocolate and candy!

Volunteers needed for Halloween Swing Dance! Reply-To: swing@mit.edu

We're going to make our October 30 swing dance this week special for Halloween, but we need your help! We're looking for volunteers for the following tasks:

1. Purchasing snacks, including deciding what to get (budget $90). We will be awarding a bag of candy as the prize for the costume contest, so need to get that, too.
2. Purchasing decorations, including deciding what to get (budget $60)
3. 7:00 PM Set up and decorating the room (La Sala de Puerto Rico)
4. Emcee the costume contest (10:00 PM). Anyone good at public speaking?

Anyone is welcome to volunteer for any of these tasks, though having a car is would be very helpful for #1 and #2. Nightclub 2-Step Dancing, Sala, Lesson 7:30

At 7:30 before the dance, Sydney will teach a Night Club 2-Step lesson and will DJ the first set with Night Club 2-Step music.  Here is a description of the music: Nightclub 2-Step is very much in the swing family (invented by Buddy Schwimmer, the co-inventor of West Coast Swing).  It's commonly danced to slow (85ish bpm) pop and rock songs and is often mixed in with faster swing songs to bring a nice change of pace to any social dance experience.

The second set, by Eric Reesman, will be mostly East Coast swing and Lindy Hop music.

Starting next week (10/23), Victoria and Omari will teach a two-week series on east coast swing.

At 7:30 before the dance, Avery and Galen will teach a beginner West Coast Swing lesson.  After the lesson, they will DJ the first set with primarily music for west coast swing (though you are free to dance anything you want to it).  The second set by Tina will be mostly east coast swing / lindy hop music.

Next week, Michelle and Omari will teach an East Coast Swing lesson.
